Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My media product develops the codes and conventions of a general thriller film, it does this in several ways such as music, shot type and editing. Through music my product creates suspense and tension, this is a key aspect of thriller films. Music is the main source of creating tension in thriller films, it puts the audience on edge and good music can make a good film. The music i have used builds slowly growing in sound to a point in the film to create growing suspense, this is used widely by thriller products as a main source of suspense. The shot type used in each scene of my product helps create suspense along with music and editing. In many of my scenes i have used close ups, this has been used to focus on important parts or objects in the film. I have also used tracking shots and point of view shots, these shots help follow the action and give the feeling of the scene being in first person. Editing is one of the key elements of a thriller film, i have used editing to create pace and build suspense in my product. I have used quick cuts to build pace and suspense, the cuts get quicker to build faster.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I believe that the combination of my main product and ancillary works well together. The poster and the film have key parts that are in both, this is so that the audience can relate the two together. My website, poster and film share similar key parts, the website and poster use the same picture which relates them together. The combination of a website, poster and film is used by many real media products.

What have you learned from your audience feedback

From my audience feedback i learned what the audience expect to be in a general thriller film. I asked people who were questioned if the the trailer influenced their decision to watch the film, the results showed that it does affect their decison. I then asked what was it about the trailer that made the person want to watch the film. The results of this question was that the audience were influenced by the drama of the trailer, so the music and editing were used to create these the dramtic scenes.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Through my research I have used many new media technologies. I used a website called youtube to view trailers of real media products, i also used this website to place film clips onto my blog. I also used a social networking site for my questionaire, I posted my questionaire ont facebook and got people to answeer the questions and i would collect the results. Throughout my coursework i have used my blog to post my research planning and evaluation aswell as my constructions. For my construction i used new cameras and new mac computers, these computers had the new imovie software. I used the new cameras to film my project and the new cameras to edit the film through the new imovie software. For my poster i uesed photoshop to edit and create effects for my poster.

Location Research

For my film trailer I plan to uses several different locations as this is the generic convention of a trailer, this makes it fast paced. I plan to use locations that have poor lighting, this will create a dark atmosphere aswell as creating tension when music is playing. I used a usual street junction at night, this makes it look like a real life situation, filming at night created the tension and the darkness is also used to hid the kidnapper. I also used an alley way, I used the alley for my chase scene, the small space makes the scene more intense and allows the audience to focus on the action. Another location I used was a cellar, this wasd a perfect location as it was dark and confined, this creates tension and suspense.
